On Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 1:30PM the case
Independent Living Center of Southern California, et.al. v. Shewry was heard in Sacramento Superior Court. CSHP-Touro sent 2 representatives to 10% MediCal cuts hearing, including student member Amar N. who was on rotations at the time & the sitting Chapter President. The University of the Pacific was the only other school to send a contingent of students.  The judge ruled against the plaintiffs, and allows the 10% cuts to continue; Further legal action is pending as of 7/14/08.

The state judge ended-up denying the eight retail pharmacies’ motion to stop the ten percent Medi-Cal provider cuts. The pharmacies sought a temporary restraining order (TRO) from Sacramento Superior Court against the California Department of Health Care Services and its director Sandra Shewry to block the cuts from being implemented.

The CSHP-Touro Chapter President attended the June 23, 2008 California Board of Pharmacy Licensing Committee Meeting. He attended to speak in favor of an item on the agenda, "Discussion to Amend 16 CCR Section 1728 to Increase the Number of Intern Hours That an Be Earned Outside a Pharmacy."

This proposal would amend current law to allow for an additional 400 hours (for a total of 1,000 hours of the 1,500 total hours required) that an inten can earn for pharmacy-related experience outside of a pharmacy.

The Committe
e moved to table the issue until it will be heard again on the July 23-24, 2008 Public Board Meeting.
